The Redmi Buds 8 Active is Xiaomi’s budget pair for 2026, and it fixes the two things people complained about on older Redmi buds: battery and call quality. You get up to 37 hours with the case, two mics with AI noise reduction that also handle wind, and a bigger 14.2mm driver. The fit is semi-in-ear, meaning no silicone tips go into your ear canal, so it’s comfortable to wear all day. We stock it in black.

Sound and the Semi-In-Ear Fit

The 14.2mm driver is large for earbuds at this price, and Xiaomi says the titanium coating mainly sharpens the mids and treble, so vocals and instruments come through more clearly. One thing to know before you buy: semi-in-ear buds rest in the outer ear instead of sealing it with a rubber tip. That makes them more comfortable for long hours and you still hear your surroundings, which helps on the road. The trade-off is less bass punch and less isolation than a sealed pair. If you want the outside world blocked out, you need ANC earbuds instead.

In the Xiaomi Earbuds app you can switch between five EQ presets (Balanced, Enhance treble, Enhance bass, Enhance voice, Boost volume) or set your own curve. The app also lets you change tap gestures and installs firmware updates. On Xiaomi phones running HyperOS 3 or later, EQ settings are also in the Bluetooth menu.
Calls, Connection and Everyday Use
Calls use two mics and Xiaomi’s AI noise reduction, which filters background noise out of your voice. Xiaomi says it handles wind up to 6m/s, so calls on a bike or in an open market stay usable. This is call noise reduction, not ANC: it cleans up your voice for the other person but doesn’t quiet the world for you. Our guide on ANC vs ENC explains the difference.
Dual-device connection lets the buds stay linked to your phone and laptop at the same time, and Google Fast Pair shows a pop-up on Android phones the first time you open the case. Bluetooth 5.4 keeps the connection steady across a room.
Battery Life and Charging

Xiaomi rates the buds at 7 hours per charge and 37 hours in total with the case, at 50% volume over AAC. That’s about 23% more than the Redmi Buds 6 Active. If you forget to charge, 10 minutes in the case gives about 2 hours of music, as long as the case has at least 20% left. The case charges over USB Type-C, and Xiaomi doesn’t publish a full charge time.
Water and Dust Resistance

The earbuds are IP54 rated, so light rain, splashes and dust aren’t a problem. The case isn’t rated. Xiaomi also says not to shower or swim with them, and to avoid heavy sweaty workouts, since the protection wears down over time.
